"I'm overwhelmed at all the educational materials out there. It's just so much to learn!"

I hear this or a close version of this statement every week. Either you don't know what to choose from in the SDCIA library or you've purchased or taken a seminar and the materials are sitting around unused. The arduous task of going through all that stuff is intimidating & you don't feel like you can ever learn it all. So you don't; nothing gets learned and now you're ashamed you aren't doing anything. There may be additional pressure(s) from a spouse or other family members of "I told you so!" or "Now you wasted all that money!" Guilt, guilt, guilt!

Want to know how to get through all that seminar material? It'll just be our secret... get closer now...

Read or listen to books or seminars on your subject for 1/2 to one hour and keep a personal journal EVERY DAY.

You'll get through shelves of books and seminars AND retain what you've learned. It takes self discipline to keep it up EVERY DAY... and the rewards are definitely worth it!

We leave this world sometimes quickly and unexpectedly and regret those things we didn't do. So be sure to tell those that matter how much you love them every chance you get!

Now would be a good time for everyone to read or reread Spencer Johnson's book, "Who Moved My Cheese?" This is a very short, easy reading book on how to deal with change.

Real estate investing in San Diego has changed. Don't get stuck doing what worked last year in real estate investing. Buying properties and planning to profit on future appreciation will be a short and painful lesson.

I recommend two other seminars coming up... besides all of Bruce Norris' seminars.

Peter Fortunato is conducting a rare West Coast version of his "One Step Beyond" seminar in San Francisco on March 18-19. Go to http://www.bawb.info/workshops.html#march for info.

John Schaub's Graduate Class will be held in Las Vegas April 21-23. http://www.johnschaub.com

Peter & John are two of four instructors I recommend without any reservations. They are active investors that teach because they love it and give such clear explanations.

I attended Bruce Norris' California Crash seminar this past weekend. Wow, it's amazing how much research Bruce conducted to create the seminar. There were over 400 graphs & charts that had to be produced. Bruce even challenged a state of California report stating that more people had migrated to the state than left. The state's representative agreed that the report now contained erroneous data but would not change the report. And these are reports that builders/developers use as gospel for their future activities!

Bruce's seminars are not only filled with great content but they add little details that make the experience so much better. And now Bruce is offering is his Investors Essentials for California Only seminar this Saturday, March 4th, for FREE!!!

I give two thumbs up to any of Bruce's seminars or materials.

Here's the new SDCIA newsletter:

SDCIA Newsletter March 2006

Welcome to the new San Diego Creative Investors Association’s newsletter. The purpose of this newsletter is to provide information about the group, the meetings and general interest. It will be produced monthly and come out at the beginning of each month. We're providing this newsletter in response to the many requests for further information about the meetings, speakers and upcoming events… and not having to attend the meetings to get to that information.

This newsletter is a work in progress so please bear with us as we grow and change.

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, March 8th. Doors open at 6 p.m. Our speaker will be John Hyre. All our meetings are at the Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge, 1895 Camino Del Rio South in Mission Valley of San Diego. Please go to our web site, www.sdcia.com, for directions and a map to our meetings.

Here's a little bit about John:

“John Hyre is an attorney, accountant and real estate investor. All of his clients are real estate investors. Prior to venturing out on his own, he worked for two of the Big Five accounting firms and for several Fortune 500 companies. He saved his clients millions of dollars in taxes annually. But working for the man got old - so now he’s here to save RE investors big bucks...and invest his earnings in more RE of his own.
His advice and research are thoroughly focused on real estate. He’s heard most of the questions and researched most of the answers....and constantly works to stay on top of RE tax issues. (for more about John Hyre’s topics & background, go to our web site, www.sdcia.com.)”

HOT OFF THE PRESS!

Bruce Norris has notified the SDCIA that his seminar, California “Only” Investor Essentials, this Saturday March 4th, is now FREE!! Look under Upcoming Events on the SDCIA web site, www.sdcia.com, on how to contact The Norris Group & sign up.

BRAND NEW!

The SDCIA's president, Bill Tan, now offers a blog that you can access from the SDCIA web site. A blog is a web forum for disseminating information and questions and answers. The blog, as well as this newsletter, is a work in progress. He will be offering his opinions, lessons learned, answering questions and other subjects (primarily real estate) for you to read and comment upon. Check it out and let us know what you think.

This & That

Some of us now meet, just before the regular meetings, at Mimi’s Café in Mission Valley (5180 Mission Center Road, 619-491-0284). The meetings start at 4:30 p.m., are informal, not hosted and you're on your own for dinner. We have found it to be a wonderful time for networking and Q & A in a quieter and more relaxed atmosphere than can be found at the SDCIA meetings. And some times we have surprise guests!
The SDCIA library is an intellectual goldmine. You can find books and seminars on just about every topic of real estate investing and other related topics. Any member may check out items from the library. So be sure to become a member!

Haves/Wants is a popular part at each meeting. Presenters have the opportunity to tell the group and listeners on the web site of real estate related deals they have or are looking for. No services are presented from the podium, unless they are special real estate related services. Please get permission to present the services before the meeting starts. The list of Haves/Wants is limited to the first 20 to sign up on a first-come, first-served basis. We have this limit due to the time constraints of the meetings. The sign up sheet can be found on the podium in the front of the room. A board member will have a special sign-up sheet with only 20 slots to be filled out… and only this sign up sheet will be used.

Professionals such as lenders, real estate agents, appraisers, CPAs, attorneys, etc., have an opportunity at every meeting to be recognized. Be sure to bring plenty of business cards and/or flyers for the back tables.

Different areas of the meeting room are designated for specific networking before the meeting starts. The three areas are: people with money or looking for money for real estate deals, those with properties or looking for properties, and service providers.

Most everything will be related to real estate investing some way. You will be able to ask questions (& I will attempt to answer them all) & make comments. Please don't get carried away with either. In other words... it's my playground & my rules.

Let's have fun & enjoy the ride!
